As We Keep Walking

An Encouragement for the Simple Church

How do we know the path we’re walking on is good?

When we say yes to walking with Jesus, scripture teaches us that we are part of the body of believers, where we are all invited to hold on to His promises.

Sometimes life feels good; other times it doesn't.

It’s not uncommon for us to get lost in the rhythms of life, maybe at times feeling bored, detached, or even disconnected.

We live on the same schedule Monday through Friday.

We play phone tag with people, struggling to find the right time to connect.

We forget why we do what we do.

So, what happens when we struggle to see the path ahead of us as good?

Psalm 37:23-24 centers us with this wisdom:

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though they may stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord upholds them with His hand.

God promises to uphold those who delight in him.

Another translation affirms that the Lord will “direct the steps of the godly”, delighting in “every detail of their lives”.

God delights in us! Meaning, he enjoys us?

Yes. The Lord finds joy in our unique souls.

He delights in those who enjoy a relationship with Him.

Finding the good path, then, may begin in this relationship.

Friendship with Jesus is our first devotion.

From this friendship, scripture teaches that it is where every good and perfect gift flows.

No matter where you are, we are walking with Jesus together.

Jesus ordains our steps, making each step sure beyond where we can see.

The Holy Spirit discerns each step for us, while our work is to find enjoyment and to cherish God’s presence and goodness.

This leads us to a transforming heart that prioritizes God's loving culture.

Love that aligns our desires with his purposes to find true joy and fulfillment in Him.

So, keep walking forward.

Keep cherishing the greatest friendship of all.
